The Second Story Reading Series is a children's and young adult reading series held at The Loft Literary Center (in Minneapolis), founded by Swati Avasthi and Heather Bouwman, and now co-hosted by Megan Atwood and Heather Bouwman. The Second Story Reading Series is dedicated to introducing adults, kids, and teens to excellent literature through engaging readings and events. We pair an established author with an emerging author whom we find in some way compatible (in terms of genre, style, audience, and/or content), and we ask them to read and speak together, in the hopes that audience members might come to hear one author--and stay to discover another. The events are FREE! They begin with a reading and short Q-and-A with our two authors, and they move on to a reception (with thematically appropriate food, something that we are perhaps too excited about...), book sales and signings, and chances to talk with the authors present. Event attendees include kid and teen readers as well as librarians, teachers, book club leaders and members, and authors of all kinds. The feel: reading plus party. And always kid/teen-friendly.
